Codexa for developers
An AI pair that edits real files, runs builds, and respects your code.
No hidden abstraction layer. The agent works on the same files you see in the editor, shows every tool call, and snapshots before it touches anything.
A typical workflow
Designed to fit how engineers already work.
Step 1: Import or start
Import a GitHub repository or begin from a template.
Step 2: Ask, build, or fix
Use Ask mode for explanations, Build mode for features, Fix mode to resolve a failing build.
Step 3: Inspect the diff
Every run records the plan, tool calls, changed files, and token usage.
Step 4: Push
Commit from Codexa and push to your branch when GitHub is connected.
Features that matter here
AI agent that edits real files
Plans, writes and edits project files, runs type-check and build in the sandbox, and repairs errors (bounded to two attempts). Requires an AI provider key configured by your operator.
GitHub import and push
Import an existing repository, commit from Codexa, and push back when GitHub OAuth is configured.
Snapshots and per-file diffs
A snapshot is taken before every AI run. Review what changed file by file and restore with one click.
Isolated runtimes
Projects run as an unprivileged user inside Linux namespaces with memory and process limits, never in the web process.
Encrypted environment variables
Secrets are encrypted at rest and injected into previews and deployments without being shown in the browser.
PostgreSQL and Supabase connections
Browse schemas and run SQL from the workspace; destructive statements require explicit confirmation.
Example project ideas
Starting prompts you can paste into Codexa. Each one maps to a starter template and produces real, editable code.
- Add an OpenAPI-documented endpoint to an existing Express service
- Migrate a component library from CSS modules to Tailwind
- Write Vitest coverage for an untested utility module
- Build an admin panel against an existing PostgreSQL schema
Limitations to know about
- AI generation requires an Anthropic or OpenAI API key configured by the operator of your Codexa instance; without one the agent shows a "not configured" state.
- Generated code is a starting point. Review it like any other contribution before shipping to customers.
- Starter templates currently cover single-page React apps, static sites, and Node + Express APIs. Other stacks can be imported from GitHub but have not been tuned for the sandbox.
- The editor is browser-based. There is no CLI or SDK yet; both are planned.
